As an addition to the main Palace of Holyroodhouse works, Colorado Construction were appointed by the Queen’s Royal Collection Trust to renovate the 16th century Abbey Strand, located at the foot of the Royal Mile. The buildings history includes having been a medieval almshouse, lodgings for Mary Queen of Scots’ courtiers and a sanctuary for debtors.
Abbey Strand now incorporates a learning centre and a range of of 9 unique serviced apartments including a studio, and one and two bedroom accommodation. Colorado Construction’s stonemasons and carpenters (utilising the businesses joinery workshop) have restored the medieval fireplaces, age old stone and joinery features, bringing them together with contemporary finishes.
